What Is The Difference between Solid Deodorants And Roll-on Deodorants?

A good antiperspirant deodorant will leave you feeling dry no matter the situation. Roll-on antiperspirant deodorants can give you a different experience than solid antiperspirants. So, what is the difference between solid deodorants and roll-on deodorants?

deodorants

Roll-on antiperspirant deodorants

Roll-on antiperspirant deodorants contain a clear liquid that can be rolled onto the skin. They use a liquid formula with water or alcohol as a solvent base, add antiperspirant active ingredients such as aluminum chlorohydrate, and use a micro-bead rolling device to achieve uniform liquid coverage. Their water content is usually 60%-70%, supplemented by humectants such as glycerin and propylene glycol to maintain the liquid state. Some high-end products will add botanical ingredients such as tea tree oil and menthol to enhance the antibacterial effect and provide a cool touch.

They are easy to use and control; just apply the product at the location of use.

Their disadvantage is that they take several minutes to dry and feel wet compared to some solid or spray antiperspirants. Many people like this feeling, but some people prefer a dry feeling.

Solid antiperspirant deodorant

Solid antiperspirant deodorants are often called "stick deodorants" and are made of dense materials that form a protective layer on the skin. Solid deodorants are based on a wax matrix, and the main ingredients are solidifying agents, such as hydrogenated castor oil and beeswax, which account for about 15-25% of the total ingredients. The antiperspirant (such as aluminum zirconium compound) is combined with the wax through a high-temperature melting process, and a dense structure is formed after cooling.

Many people who use solid antiperspirant deodorants prefer to use stick antiperspirant deodorants for dry application rather than using roll-on antiperspirant deodorants for wet application.

Solid antiperspirant deodorants are dry in texture and usually in powder form, which means they are more likely to leave white marks on clothes during use. These stains are difficult to wash off, especially on delicate clothes.

In short, there are no restrictions on choosing a deodorant. But at least you can choose a deodorant with a fragrance you like or a shape that is convenient for use.

Multi-dimensional comparison of user experience

(1) Touch and drying time

The initial wetness of the ball product reaches level 3-4 (level 1 is completely dry), and it takes 3-5 minutes to dry naturally. In an environment with humidity >70%, it may be extended to 8 minutes. It is suitable for people who pursue a moisturizing feeling, but re-application after exercise may cause sweat dilution problems. Solid deodorants use wax film-forming technology to form a hydrophobic layer within 30 seconds after contact with the skin. The instant drying index can reach level 2.8 (industry standard), which is particularly suitable for quick care in the early morning.

(2) Residual trace comparison experiment

Third-party testing data shows that the residual rate of solid products on pure cotton fabrics is as high as 78%, and the visibility index of black fabrics is 4.2 (level 5 is the most obvious); the residual rate of ball products is only 12%, but the alcohol-containing formula may cause fading risks on delicate fabrics such as silk. The new traceless formula controls the particle size below 50μm through microemulsification technology, reducing white precipitates by 65%.

Applicable scenarios and matching with the crowd

(1) Adaptation plan for sports crowd

High-intensity athletes (daily sweat volume>800ml) are recommended to use roller products containing 20% aluminum chloride, which can suppress sweat for up to 48 hours. Marathon runners can use the double-layer protection method of "roller base + solid reinforcement", first using liquid to penetrate the hair follicles and then using solids to form a physical barrier.

(2) Key points for sensitive skin care

Sensitive skin with transepidermal water loss rate (TEWL)>25g/m²/h should choose weakly acidic roller products with pH 5.5-6.0 and avoid allergenic ingredients such as stearyl alcohol. Clinical tests have shown that the roller formula containing panthenol can reduce the incidence of irritation reactions from 12% to 3.7%.

Technological innovation and development trends

Solid deodorants are promoting 100% biodegradable paper tube packaging, reducing carbon footprint by 42%. Roller products use PCR recycled bottles. Industry statistics in 2023 show that the sales of products using environmentally friendly packaging increased by 217% year-on-year. Many brands are paying more and more attention to the sustainable development of product packaging. MGG group has more than 15 years of experience in the packaging field and focuses on providing sustainable packaging solutions. It is a good choice for you.
